Japanese Seppuku Binding

OK, so you think you're Mr. Badass bookmaker--that is until you drill a hole in the kitchen table and then can't figure out how to sew the binding when you're trying to Japanese Stab Bind a book. Um...any Stab Binding Masters out there who can give me some pointers? My new binding style is...stoppable.

This makes me wish I hadn't gotten kicked out of the Cub Scouts.

Sounds like this is a job for the Shogun Assassin.

are you drunk?

Hahaha...no, alas, just dumb.

This was an attempt at the Dusie chap, by the way. Which is way too long to sew in the usual, entirely not-crazymaking manner.

There's a German conceptual artist who made books entirely out of 'body matter', the complex binding of which was a composite of his own hair dipped in latex resin. Just a suggestion. I'm sure that wouldn't creep Susanna out . . .

Not to be morbid, but some more info. I find it interesting!

"The practice is known as anthropodermic bibliopegy, and was sometimes used in the 18th and 19th centuries when accounts of murder trials were bound in the killer's skin."

It would be appropriate in some respects because the book concerns the body as text to a certain degree.

Get a bottle of Scotch and a staple gun. Isn't Brenda a master stab-binder? Octopus stab-bound a book. I got kicked out of Boy Scouts, too.

Are you still trying to figure this out? It's not too hard, but I think I'd have to draw it. That said, if you have a stab-bound book you don't mind dissecting, you can reverse-engineer it pretty easy (and you can always rebind the book you've dissected).

Battery operated hand held drill with really small bit. Works great.
